HMS Warspite at Woolwich
HMS Warspite, the Marine Societys Training Ship in the River Thames at Woolwich, London. The Marine Society was founded in 1756 because of a shortage of volunteers for the British navy. In 1862, the Admiralty loaned the Society a new ship, the first to bear the name of HMS Warspite. From The Boys Own Paper 1879-80, a British newspaper intended for boys which was at that time published by the Religious Tract Society and which featured stories, heroic deeds, facts, educational items and illustrations
