1859: Tourists on the US shore of the Niagara River board the single smoke stack paddle steamer Maid of the Mist. The second boat carrying the name, it was in service from July 1854 until the autumn of 1860 offering sightseeing tours of the falls. In the background is the Railway Suspension Bridge built in 1855 by John A Roebling to carry the Grand Trunk Railway between Canada and New York State, USA.
