Muybridge wan an English-born photographer who established his career in San Francisco. In 1877 he photographed a masterpiece when he set up his camera on San Franciscos famed Nob Hill and took a panorama of the city using eight by ten-inch plates. The result was a magnificent view of the city on 11 panels that stretched to seven and a half feet in length. He published the series as " Panorama of San Francisco from California Street Hill".
