Plaza Cinema
1st October 1955: A neon sign lights up the Plaza cinema in the Scottish industrial town of Kilmarnock. Kilmarnock is home to a variety of industries, including the Johnnie Walker whisky distillery and John Lawsons tartan factory, as well as others less traditional to Scotland such as Saxone shoes and Glenfield and Kenny, manufacturers of high quality hydraulic equipment. It is hoped that the diversity of these enterprises will protect the towns economy in the event of a slump so that the low rate of unemployment, 1.5 per cent of the working population, does not increase.
