(Original Caption). More than one thousand persons massed in front of the Arkansas capitol here on August 12th, to wait for a speech by Governor Orval Faubus. Faubus told them that I see no use for you today to be beaten over the head and jailed. But Faubus added that make no doubt that this integration is to be enforced. In spite of Faubus pleas to refrain from violence, the demonstrators marched to Central High School, where one Negro was scheduled to attend. That attempt to break through a police barricade was ended. Firemen turned fire hoses on the throng and police wielded night sticks. Twenty were arrested.
