(Original Caption). Confident Dr. Salk Meets the Press. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Four days before the long-awaited report on the nationwide test of his anti-polio vaccine made on children last year, Dr. Jonas Salk received a press delegation in his lab at the Virus Research Laboratory of the University of Pittsburgh. He is shown (left), framed by bottles of cherry-colored liquid, including some of the vaccine that has given the world hope of eliminating the scourge of polio. In center, Dr. Salk is answering a newsman's quesiton. Asked if it was true that he was to head the Department of Preventive Medicine at Pitt, the doctor said, yes, he was supposed to, but refused to elaborate on the supposed to. At right, Dr. Salk holds up for examination one of the bottles in which the virus is grown. He radiated confidence that the vaccine would be a success. April 9, 1955. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
