(Original Caption) 10/11/1937-Coaldale, Pennsylvania-Governor George H. Earle of Pennsylvania, circular light on his cap, is pictured with the 38 stay-down miners who have self-imprisoned themselves 1300 feet underground in the Number 8 mine of the Lehigh Navigation Coal Company. The governor, who flew from Harrisburg for a first hand inspection of the mines as a prelude to a conference at a capital, asked the sit-down strikers to choose a representative to speak for them at Harrisburg. They chose Donnie Gallagher who is seated on the left of Governor Earle. The strikers are demanding a written agreement with company officials concerning wage increase demands. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
