King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band
Joe "King" Oliver and his Creole Jazz Band pose in their studio in Chicago, ca. 1922. The band, which had a lifespan of just four years, was one of the most influential early jazz bands, and it became the launching pad for Louis Armstrong's brilliant career. Left to right, the members are: Johnny Dodds, clarinet; Baby Dodds, drums; Honore Dutrey, trombone; Louis Armstrong, second trumpet; King Oliver, lead trumpet; Lil Hardin (Armstrong's wife), piano; and Bill Johnson, banjo
