The American pianist and entertainer, Liberace, pictured in London today after the first day of the hearings in the High Court. Liberace said that he was deeply shocked by an article about him in the Daily Mirror when he visited Britain in 1956. Liberace is suing the Daily Mirror and their columnist Cassandra, Mr. William Connor, for libel. Liberace's counsel, Mr. Gilbert Beyfus, Q.C. read extracts from the column in question, and said that there had been hostility from audience and at Sheffield some days after publication of one of these articles, Liberace was greeted by cries of Queer, an expression denoting homosexuality.
