(Original Caption) 6/1/1950-San Juan, Puerto Rico- At San Juan's Isla Grande Airport, migratory farm workers are shown boarding one of the special planes which took them to the US to meet a 6/20 deadline in the Michigan sugar beet fields. It's one of 50 flights by four-engined planes carrying more than 3000 Puerto Rican workers in what is termed one of the biggest international airlifts in history. By order of Gov. Luis Munoz Marin, contract-farm labor groups from Puerto Rico were ordered to stop using two-motor planes following a recent ditching off Florida that took the lives of 27 Puerto Rican workers.
