Rudolph Ivanovich Abel from U.S. District Court in Brooklyn after he was arraigned today on an indictment charging that he stole U.S. Military and atomic secrets for Russia. Abel, who posed as an artist and photographer in Brooklyn's Fulton St. actually was a colonel in the Soviet Secret police and allegedly acted as a master spy who headed Soviet espionage in the U.S. He pleaded innocent of the charges at his arraignment. His eyes, hooded like those of a lizard, were taking in the array of photographers awaiting him when this photo was made.
