(Original Caption) 8/26/1959- New York, NY: Noted jazz trumpeter Miles Davis (left) is led into court for arraignment here, August 26th. Davis, 32 was arrested for felonious assault and disorderly conduct after allegedly grappling with a policeman outside the Birdland Jazz Emporium on Broadway. Police said that Davis suffereed a head laceration when a detective hit him with a blackjack. The trouble reportedly happened with patrolman Gerald Kilduff ordered the trumpter to clear the sidewalk. Police said that Davis refused to move and that the jazz musician wrested a nightstick from the patrolman when Kilduff took Davis by the arm to lead him to the police station.
