Munich, March 25, 1953 -- Theodor Wimmer, Lord Mayor of Munich, said farewell here today to the first German-Austrian mountain-climbing expedition to conquer a Himalaya peak since World War II. The eleven-man expedition, of which seven are Germans and four Austrians, are scheduled to leave Gilgit, Pakistan, in mid-May for the assault on the sixth-highest mountain of the world, the Nanga Prabat, 26, 660 feet (8125 meters) high. The climb will be led by Austrian veteran climber Peter Aschenbrenner, who took part in three previous attempts to climb the Nanga Prabat, also known as the German Mountain. Thirty-one climbers lost their lives in previous attempts to climb the ice and snow covered peak. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang.
