Framed Print of Great 20th Century Explorers
The ill-fated semi-rigid N-class airship N1 (aka Italia ) makes a stopover at an airfield before continuing on with Italian general Umberto Nobiles second expedition to overfly the North Pole, Stolp, Germany, April 16, 1928. The Italia crashed on drifting pack ice on May 25 during its return from the Pole. Nobile was rescued when Swedish pilot Einar Lundborg arrived on June 23 but the remaining five survivors were picked up by a Soviet icebreaker, Krassin, on July 12. Lundborg, who crashed on his return to the floe, was removed by another Swedish pilot, Schyberg, on July 6. Three survivors attempted to walk to land, two of them survived and were picked up by the Krassin. One crew member died in the initial crash and six were carried away by the gas bag during the accident. The subsequent rescue attempts were the first large-scale international air-sea search-and-rescue operations of their kind in the Arctic region and resulted in the death of Nobiles former partner and rival Roald Amundsen. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
