Exploring the World in 3D

Welcome to an amazing collection of stereo views of every conceivable subject from the London Stereoscopic Company (LSC).  Founded in 1854 by George Swan Nottage and Howard John Kennard LSC was one of the world's largest publishers and distributors of stereoscopic photographs during the Victorian era. By 1858, the LSC played a crucial role in popularising stereoscopic photography and bringing three-dimensional images to the masses. This is a selection of over 1000 images from the vast catalogue of over 100,000 titles.

LSC commissioned photographers to travel worldwide, capturing images that allowed viewers to experience distant lands and cultures from the comfort of their homes.  The company's success was built on the Victorian fascination with stereoscopic imagery, which provided a novel and immersive visual experience. The LSC's influence extended beyond mere entertainment, as their images served as an important educational and cultural resource, offering viewers a window into the world during a time of rapid technological and social change.

Today, the legacy of the London Stereoscopic Company lives on through the efforts of rock musician Brian May and his team, who have revived the company name and continue to promote the art of stereoscopic photography. This modern incarnation of the LSC celebrates the rich history of 3D imagery while also exploring new applications and technologies in the field.
