Coast At Fort William
circa 1925: The coastline at Fort William. Fort William is at the foot of Ben Nevis which is the highest peak in Britain measuring 4, 406 ft (1343 metres). The town is popular as a base for people visiting the area to climb or fish, and a ski resort has been built nearby. The fort from which the town gets its name was built in1690 to help control rebellious Highland clans, but was demolished in 1855 when the West Highland Line Railway was built between London and Fort William.
