This is a collection of artistic photography from the flamboyant and mysterious Victorian artist Oscar Gustave Rejlander, known as the "'father of art photography', A painter before he became a portrait photographer in 1853, his attention to detail while posing his subjects and composing his shots came from his fine arts background. He photographed famous names such as Lewis Carroll, seen in this collection, as well as regular people. Ahead of his time, he pioneered techniques to manipulate photographs; combination printing,= (a technique using multiple negatives to create a single image) and “tunnel studios” (positioning subjects in light, looking into a camera in a dark corner of the studio so that the darkness caused their pupils to expand for more expressive shots while keeping them well-lit).
