Framed Print of Field Training
27th August 1955: A member of the Seventy-First Regiment of the Highland Light Infantry surveys the land during field training. Officially formed in 1777 by former Jacobite Lord MacLeod, son of the Earl of Cromarty and a Mackenzie by clan, the regiment was originally called MacLeod's Highlanders and wore Mackenzie tartan. The regiment became the Light Infantry in 1809 and in 1834 was granted permission to wear tartan trousers and plaids, or shawls. Famous Highlanders include Piper George Clark who continued to play his bagpipes for his comrades during battle, despite being badly wounded in the thigh.
