Framed Print of Scottish Hydro-Electric Scheme
The first two pages of a feature by Maurice Edelman in the 13th March 1943 edition of Picture Post magazine on the British government's Hydro-electrification Bill for Scotland. The bill proposes to use Scotland's water supply to provide electricity for the scattered local population and to encourage industry into the area, creating jobs for crofters, who are experiencing increasing economic hardship. On the right is a portrait of Secretary of State for Scotland, Tom Johnston (1881 - 1965), who formed the Cooper Committee on whose report the bill is based.
