Laocoon and his sons being attacked by serpents, a scene from " Stories From Virgil" by the Reverend Alfred J. Church, M.A. with illustrations from the designs of BartolomeoPinelli(1781 - 1835). Published by Seeley, Jackson & Halliday, London, in 1879. Laocoon was a Trojan priest in ancient Greek mythology: here, he and his sons are attacked and killed by giant snakes which have been been sent by the gods as punishment for Laocoon warning the Trojans not to accept the Trojan Horse, given by the Greeks to trick them
