Church and Convent of Society of Jesus (Iglesia y Convento de la CompaAnia de Jesus)
This Jesuit monastery was built between 1690 and 1698, as the rest of beautiful buildings of Antigua city (Santiago de los Caballeros back then) this church was severely damaged by earthquakes between 1717 and 1773. From 1865 a textile factory was installed inside its walls. In 1912, for commercial purposes, the building became a market. Recently it was restaured by the Spanish government, the complex has been reborn and was converted as a cultural center and library.
Antigua and the Templo de la CompaAnAia de Jess are today a favorite tourist destination as a partially restored colonial city with majestic churches and monasteries and cobblestone streets. Antigua was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1979
