"Stories from Homer" is a book written by the Rev. Alfred John Church, an English classical scholar and author. The book was first published in 1878. As the title suggests, it is a collection of stories from the ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer: the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey." Homer's epics are among the most important works of literature in Western history and have inspired countless adaptations and interpretations over the centuries.

John Flaxman, an English sculptor and draftsman, provided a series of illustrations that accompanied Church's retelling of the epic tales. His illustrations added visual depth to Church's narratives, helping readers to better imagine the ancient Greek world of Homer's epics. His artistic interpretations brought the characters, scenes, and emotions described in the stories to life, enhancing the overall reading experience. Through his illustrations, Flaxman contributed significantly to the accessibility and appeal of Church's book, making the ancient stories more engaging and captivating for readers of all ages.
